If you are a Dutch national living in Thailand you can apply for a DigiD online. But you will need to collect your activation code in person. You can do this at the Netherlands embassy in Bangkok. Pensioners living in Thailand can apply to the Social Insurance Bank (SVB) for a DigiD.

What if you live abroad and receive an old age pension from the Social Insurance Bank (SVB)? Then you can apply to the SVB for a DigiD. You can do this online; you don't need to appear in person.

Do I need to have a DigiD?

DigiD stands for Digital Identity. You use your DigiD to prove your identity on the internet. It assures organisations that you are who you say you are. You don't have to use a DigiD, but many government organisations now work with the DigiD system. These include the Tax and Customs Administration, the Social Insurance Bank (SVB) and the Employee Insurance Agency (UWV). If you have a DigiD you can use the services they provide online. Pick up your DigiD activation code at the embassy in Bangkok

At the Netherlands embassy in Bangkok you need to make an appointment to pick up your DigiD activation code.

Before you come, you will have to go through the DigiD application procedure. If you did not go through the application procedure, the embassy can’t provide you with an activation code.

You will need to bring the following documents with you:

  1. your service desk code (after completing your application, you will receive this by text message and by e-mail), on paper*;
  2. your Dutch passport or identity card (of which you entered the document number during your application);
  3. your Citizens Service Number (BSN number), on paper* (in case it isn’t mentioned in your passport or on your ID card).

* Due to security reasons and possible equipment disruption, it is not allowed to use mobile phones at the service desk. Therefore, you must bring this information on paper.
