Renewing your driving licence in Slovenia?

If you live in Slovenia and your Dutch driving licence has expired, you cannot renew it. You must exchange your Dutch licence for a Slovenian licence.

Exchanging your driving licence

You can exchange your Dutch driving licence for a Slovenian licence if you have been registered in Slovenia for at least six months. This can be done at a municipality, regardless of where you live. You will not need to retake your driving test. You can find more information about the procedure and the required documents on the website of the Slovenian Ministry of Interior.

If your driving licence is expired you will need a certificate of authenticity (information in Dutch). This certificate is issued by the Road Transport Agency (RDW). It shows whether your driving licence is listed in the Central Driving Licences Register. The certificate is in English. You do not need to have it translated or legalised.

Driving licence lost or stolen?

If your Dutch driving licence has been lost or stolen you must apply for a Slovenian driving licence. You can do so at a municipality, regardless of where you live. You will not need to retake your driving test. You can find more information about the procedure and the required documents on the website of the Slovenian Ministry of Interior.

You can download a statement of loss (PDF, 75kb) and send it to the Road Transport Agency (RDW). This will prevent unauthorised use of your driving licence.
