Applying for a passport or ID card at Schiphol
If you live abroad and want to apply for a passport or ID card at Schiphol Airport, you can make an appointment to go to the passport desk of the municipality of Haarlemmermeer at Schiphol in Arrival Hall 2.
From 29 July 12.00 hours to 1 August 2021 inclusive it will not be possible to apply for a Dutch passport or ID card, because as of 2 August 2021 all new ID cards issued to Dutch nationals aged 12 and older will include copies of their fingerprints and a QR code with their citizen service number (BSN).
How to make an appointment?
You can make an appointment for the passport desk at Schiphol using the online appointment system (in Dutch) of the municipality of Haarlemmermeer. If you are applying for more than one passport or ID card, please make a separate appointment for each passport or ID card you want to apply for.

What should you bring with you?
When you apply for a passport or ID card, it is important to bring the right documents with you. So you should make a personal checklist for yourself or your child:
- On the Applying for a Dutch passport or identity card when you live abroad webpage, enter the country where you live.
- Go to step 1 to create a personal checklist of documents you should bring with you, and then print the checklist. One of the documents you will need is a photo. You can take a photo online using the site Pasfoto.nu (in Dutch) or have one taken at Schiphol, at Capi Plaza.
- Use step 2 of the webpage to check any additional requirements for the country where you live.
How much does a passport or ID card cost?
The fees for a passport or ID card are given in the overview below:

How can you pay?
At the passport desk at Schiphol you can only pay with a debit card or credit card. However, Visa Electron and American Express are not accepted. Payment in cash is not possible.
How long will it take?
Your passport or ID card will be ready in about two working days.
It may take longer if:
- you have the travel document sent to you;
- your current travel document has been lost or stolen;
- your nationality has to be verified.
Collecting your document
- At the time of your appointment, you can make an appointment at the passport desk to collect your document. You can also make an appointment later to collect your document from the passport desk at Schiphol using the online appointment system (in Dutch) of the municipality of Haarlemmermeer.
- You must collect the passport or identity card in person at the passport desk. The desk is located in Arrival Hall 2. Remember to check the opening times.
- Children under the age of 12 must collect their passport or ID card together with their parent(s) or guardian(s). If this is not possible, they will need permission from their parent(s) or guardian(s). Children aged 12 or older may collect their own passport or ID card.
- The passport desk staff will cancel your old passport or ID card and then return it to you. If your old document contains visas or residence permits that are still valid and you want to keep those pages intact, you should make this known beforehand.
- You must collect your new passport or ID card within three months; after three months it will be destroyed.
Having your document sent to you
You can also have your new passport or ID card sent to the address where you are staying in the Netherlands. The cost of this service is €4.95 per document or €9.95 for two or more documents. You must sign in person to confirm receipt. In this case your old travel document will not be returned to you.
Lost or stolen documents
You are no longer required to file an official report if you have lost your travel document. If your travel document is stolen, however, you should always report it to the police to prevent identity theft.
You can report the theft or loss to the passport desk at Schiphol, including the document number.

Please note that calling will incur a cost.
- From the Netherlands and all other EU countries normal rates apply.
- From most non-EU countries you will pay international rates.
In that case, the costs of the call may mount up rapidly. Ask your phone company about the possibility of a less expensive temporary subscription that allows you to call the Netherlands from abroad, or buy a local SIM card and phone the Dutch embassy or consulate in your region, which can also be reached 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
