Voting by proxy from abroad

From abroad you can arrange for someone in the Netherlands to vote on your behalf. To do so you must apply for authorisation to vote by proxy. You may choose this option if, for example, the postal service in the country where you live in is slow or unreliable.

Applying for authorisation to vote by proxy

You can apply to the municipality of The Hague for authorisation to vote by proxy. Do this by filling in the form on the municipality’s website.

An authorisation to vote by proxy can be used only once. The authorisation will not be valid for other future elections, meaning you will have to apply again for an authorisation if you wish to have someone to vote on your behalf.

Other ways to vote

You can also vote from abroad by post. If you happen to be in the Netherlands at the time of the election, you can vote in a Dutch municipality.

Registering as a Dutch voter abroad
