Opportunities for businesses in Kenya

The government's international network flags international opportunities and trends for businesses, in partnership with local parties and governments.

Opportunities and developments

Staff at our missions closely monitor economic, innovative and social developments. They identify opportunities, trends and local demand, for example for specific products or techniques. And they also monitor opportunities for and developments in innovation, international corporate social responsibility and procurement. This includes contracting by international organisations (website in Dutch).

For more information on international opportunities, see the International Business portal and the 'NL exporteert' app (both in Dutch).

Market and sector reports

Missions also compile market and sector reports (website in Dutch). You can also find reports by private parties, such as banks. This way, you can keep up with key business developments in the local market.

New business opportunities in this country or region

Kenya has a rapidly growing population and a vast growing economy, which leads to various economic opportunities. Agriculture is a common powerhouse for Kenya and the Netherlands. The sector accounts for 25% of the country’s GDP and 70% of Kenyans work in agriculture. A majority of horticulture products (vegetables, flowers, seeds) produced in Kenya is exported to the Netherlands. A total of 400 million Euros was exported from Kenya to the Netherlands in 2013.

The Embassy closely monitors the development and opportunities in the agricultural sector. Check Agroberichten Buitenland regularly to stay well informed about the latest trends, market studies and events.

Reports and market analysis on other sectors are available through an inquiry to nai-ea@minbuza.nl. Over the course of the last two years the Embassy has issued reports on urban economic growth, (maritime) logistics health care, ICT and (renewable) energy.  The reports give insight to entrepreneurial opportunities in the Kenyan market.

The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland) encourages entrepreneurs in sustainable, agrarian, innovative and international business. NEA can assist you in finding a possible business partners to or inform you well when you are considering starting your own business in Kenya.
