Am I entitled to healthcare benefit outside the Netherlands?

If you live abroad and you have an income from the Netherlands, or if you are living abroad temporarily but not working abroad, you must usually have Dutch health insurance. This could be the case if, for instance:

• you are employed, self-employed or a business owner in the Netherlands
• your Dutch employer has seconded you abroad
• you are studying abroad temporarily.

If you have Dutch health insurance, you can apply for healthcare benefit. You must also meet these other conditions:

• you live in a country with which the Netherlands has a reciprocal healthcare agreement
• you are aged 18 or over
• your income is under the income threshold (information in Dutch)
• your assets do not exceed a certain amount (information in Dutch)

How do I apply for healthcare benefit from outside the Netherlands?

If you live abroad in a country with which the Netherlands has a reciprocal healthcare agreement and you receive a Dutch pension or benefit, you may have health insurance via the CAK.

If so, you can get healthcare benefit if you also meet these other conditions:

• you are aged 18 or over
• your income is under the income threshold (information in Dutch)
• your assets do not exceed a certain amount (information in Dutch)
