Career:
Ambassador van Stegeren joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of The Netherlands in 1991. After a year of diplomatic training, she started her career in 1992 in the UN Political Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in The Hague. Subsequently, she held positions in the Dutch Embassy in Kuala Lumpur (1994-1997), the European Integration Department at the MFA in The Hague (1997-2000) and the Political Department of the Dutch Embassy in Washington DC (2001-2005).

She then had the following assignments:
