Renewing your driving licence in the Czech Republic?

If you live in the Czech Republic and your Dutch driving licence has expired, you cannot renew it. You must exchange your Dutch licence for a Czech licence.

Exchange your driving licence

You can exchange your Dutch driving licence for a Czech licence at the office of the municipality (in Czech: Mestsky urad) where you live. This is only possible if your have been registered in the Czech Republic for more than 185 days. You will not need to retake your driving test.

In case your Dutch driving licence is expired or missing, you will probably need a certificate of authenticity (information in Dutch). This certificate is issued by the Road Transport Agency (RDW). It shows whether your driving licence is listed in the Central Driving Licences Register. The certificate is in English. Ask your municipality if you need this document and if you need to have it translated and/or legalised. And whether you need to request this yourself from the Road Transport Agency (RDW) or whether the municipality can do this for you.

Driving licence lost or stolen?

If your Dutch driving licence has been lost or stolen you must apply for a Czech driving licence. You can do so at a the office of the municipality (in Czech: Mestsky urad) where you live.

You can download a statement of loss (PDF, 75kb) and send it to the Road Transport Agency (RDW). This will prevent unauthorised use of your driving licence.
